About Me
MIKAYLA M. WEATHERS, M.A., LMFT
I am a Mental Health Therapist with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health care industry. I was born in Oceanside to Navy parents, and have had the opportunity to move around the United States but spent the majority of my childhood in San Diego. I attended San Diego State University and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice due to my strong passion for social justice and rehabilitation. After graduating from SDSU, I decided that I wanted to have a positive direct impact on those suffering and began graduate school to earn my Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology. While in graduate school, I joined AmeriCorps and volunteered for one service year, mentoring at-risk youth in the San Diego Unified School District. I am an active member in the local recovery community, helping those who suffer from addiction work through the 12-step program.
With strength, resiliency, and compassion, I empower myself and others to recover and grow from places those identify as darkness, so that every individual has the opportunity to live in a society that encourages healing and supports transformation into light.
My belief about healing and how I can help
My passion is walking alongside those suffering to encourage and support healing. I believe through a therapeutic & safe relationship, you will have the ability to work through past & current struggles. Whether you find yourself having trouble in your relationships, are dealing with a substance related issue, are struggling to manage depressed or anxiety symptoms, are desiring a better connection with yourself, or are struggling with trauma, I believe I can help you, help yourself.
I am LGBTQIA+ affirming & support those dealing with gender identity/expression issues; self, family, and community acceptance; & those pre, during & post transition.
I have worked with a diverse client population in the San Diego area. My background includes individual and family therapy that focuses on healing relationships through relationship, creating purpose/stability in your life, & healing from past trauma. I have training in personality disorders, mood disorders, thought disorders, identity exploration, trauma, systemic family therapy, & substance related disorders. Depending on what you are here to work on, my style/modality of treatment will shift, but I always believe that through a safe therapeutic relationship, healing begins. I am skilled at DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and will use different skill techniques to support you with managing discomfort as you dig deeper into sharing and exploring your story.
